Rossini's The Barber of Seville, despite its somewhat subversive libretto by Beaumarchais, has become a classic, with the result that it’s often treated with profound respect and a certain stiffness. The Venetian director Damiano Michieletto returns it to its burlesque origins and places it in a current Sevillian setting largely inspired by the films of Pedro Almodóvar. Performed by an exceptional cast, this version of the renowned opera buffa will demonstrate that it really has not aged at all! Performances from January 11th to February 12th.
