At last, your Hotel Les Deux Girafes team can tell you about a reopening! However, this time it’s not following on from a shutdown linked to the health crisis. In fact, it’s more than 16 years since La Samaritaine, the largest of the Parisian department stores, closed its doors. Happily, this grande dame has used that time to make herself look great. Here’s what we can already tell you ...

Four buildings and a concept

The Grands Magasins, those great department stores of Paris, contributed to the splendour and modernity of the capital at the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th. Like Printemps, Bon Marché and BHV, La Samaritaine revolutionised retail and laid the foundations for our current way of shopping. The four sublime buildings it occupies, parts of which are now classified as Monuments Historiques, are jewels of Art Nouveau and Art Deco design. Restored and enhanced by many years of restoration, the venerable department store’s wrought iron balusters, huge glass roof and golden mosaics can now be seen to their best advantage.

Much more than a department store

However, the renovation has not only been about the architecture. The LVMH group, which owns the store, wanted to turn it into a complete lifestyle space. Thus, although the display area has been reduced, this has been done to offer you a fine choice of restaurants, including a Michelin-starred one, tea rooms and cafes, as well as a huge beauty area with a spa. It will bring vibrant new life to the sublime district where La Samaritaine is located, between the Pont-Neuf and the Rue de Rivoli, just a few steps from the Louvre.

Take advantage of a stay in Paris to discover, from June 23rd, 2021, this new version of La Samaritaine. Shopping, relaxation, gourmet food; you are sure to have a great time!
