A few minutes by Metro from your Hotel Les Deux Girafes is the Pompidou Centre. This multicultural complex dedicated to modern and contemporary art has finally reopened its doors. From October 21st, and until February 22nd, 2021, it presents a major exhibition dedicated to Matisse. Don’t miss it!

Matisse at the Centre Pompidou: a natural choice

Born in 1869, as a young artist Henri Matisse was introduced to Impressionism and became inspired to change his approach to his work. He was a leader of the short-lived early 20th century Fauvist movement but continued to absorb other influences throughout his career, including Primitivism and Cubism. He enthusiastically pursued disciplines such as drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and illustration, and experimented with media such as gouache and cut paper collage. His career and wide-ranging creativity are a natural fit for the Centre Pompidou's approach to promoting modern and contemporary art.

Matisse; a novel presentation

The exhibition, divided into 9 chapters like a novel, explores the close relationship between text and image at the heart of Matisse’s work. Covering the artist’s career in its entirety, Matisse: Like a Novel includes works on loan not only from the two great Matisse museums of France but also from private collections, including that of his family. Some of these creations have not been presented to the public since 1970! Finally, as with all its events, the Centre Pompidou is offering guided tours of the exhibition, some of which are intended for children. Remember to book!

During spring 2020, the health crisis deprived us of many cultural events that are usually part of the charm of Paris. Fortunately, these activities are resuming, including those at the Centre Pompidou, so please don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy them during your stay at the Hotel Les Deux Girafes.
